Power of Attorney
A lasting power of attorney is a legal document that can be prepared, to allow you to appoint someone to act on your behalf, at a point when you no longer have the desire or capacity to deal with your own affairs. You can choose someone, such as a close friend, relative, solicitor or other adviser, to make decisions on your behalf, including matters relating to your financial affairs and personal welfare.
To give you the peace of mind that your affairs will be dealt with by someone of your choosing, it is essential to prepare a Lasting Power of Attorney. Enduring Powers of attorney can no longer be created, but they are still valid if created before the October 2007 deadline. These have now been replaced by lasting powers of attorney, of which there are two types: the first dealing with property and financial affairs, the second with more personal issues and health. We can also assist with registering lasting or Enduring Powers of Attorney with the court.
